About Us
Linda Voorhis, Founder and Director of Ahimsa Wellness, has over twenty years' experience working as a leader in the addiction treatment field while nurturing an interest in holistic wellness, spirituality, compassion for all living beings, and environmental sustainability.
Linda has been a vegetarian for twenty-five plus years and her personal life’s mission has transitioned her to now living a vegan lifestyle of conscious and compassionate living. An avid cook since she was a young child, Linda has transformed her cooking style to reflect her life’s passions.
A graduate of Montclair State University in 1993, Linda has continued her delight for learning by enrolling in a Masters’ Level Degree Program for Holistic Wellness at Clayton College for Natural Health. Linda is a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor as well as a Certified Clinical Supervisor.
Linda is also a graduate of Omega Institute's Reflexology training and is currently pursuing her national American Reflexology Certification Board credential.
After being introduced to Shamanic Journeying and Past Life Regressions over sixteen years ago, Linda continued to take workshops on these subjects with several noted practitioners as her own personal practice progressed informally. In January, 2008, Linda’s practice took a more formal and structured learning process, with Linda now studying transpersonal bridge journeying under the tutelage of Hank Wesselman, PhD, renowned research paleoanthropologist and author of The Spiritwalker Trilogy (Spiritwalker, Medicinemaker, and Visionseeker), and Jill Kuykendall, RPT.
So, by now you might be asking…”Why the name ‘Ahimsa Wellness’? What does ‘Ahimsa’ mean?”
Ahimsa is a Sanskrit term which means ‘to do no harm’. It is the practice of non-violence. According to the American Vegan Society*, “it is not mere passiveness, but a positive method of meeting the dilemmas and decisions of daily life. In the western world, we call it Dynamic Harmlessness. The six pillars of this dynamic philosophy for modern life are:
- A = Abstinence From Animal Products
- H = Harmlessness With Reverence For Life
- I = Integrity Of Thought, Word, And Deed
- M = Mastery Over Oneself
- S = Service To Humanity, Nature, And Creation
- A = Advancement Of Understanding And Truth”
The concept of Ahimsa can be traced back as far as the 8th Century BC. Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi promoted the principle of Ahimsa throughout his life, but most notably in the political realm, where his non-violent resistance movement influenced not only the Indian government but also other civil rights activists, such as Martin Luther King, Jr.
